Cape Town Microbreweries | Support Real Beer

I really like beer - maybe - just maybe - it has something to do with my nationality: I really like beer! And since the "We love real beer" festival at the Old Biscuit Mill in late 2010, I have started to appreciate and support some of microbrews that are available in Cape Town. Some can be a bit pricey but it's always well worth it. If you also want to start supporting local microbreweries, below you can find a list of Cape Town microbreweries. Enjoy!

&Union Brewery Bree Street The cornerstone of the St Stephen's Church redevelopment on Cape Town's Bree Street (near Long), the &Union space occupies a section of the cellar in one of the cities oldest existing churches. The bar is small, with snug seating for about 35, and communal tables outside to take in the Cape Town summers. Steel stools, marble counters with brass detail, and pendant lights punctuating a sea of dark wood overhead.

Paulaner Brauhaus V&A Waterfront

Paulaner Brauhaus Cape Town Paulaner Bräuhaus first opened its doors in 2001 and is situated near the Clock Tower at the V&A Waterfront. A pleasant, casual restaurant and beer garden await your arrival – as do the freshest Bavarian Maß of beer and traditional “Bayrische Geschmack”, or cuisines. The mircrobrewery’s storage cellar is the only one worldwide below sea level where beer is brewed on site – by their very own German brewmaster!

Mitchell's Brewery Mitchell’s Ales are unpasteurised, live ales and are produced using the finest available ingredients and a carefully selected amalgam of British mashing and German lagering techniques to produce ales uniquely suited to South African conditions. Mitchell's pride themselves on the fact that their outstanding draught beers are produced using the finest local ingredients. The Mitchell's portfolio is made up of 4 draught beers which are low in alcohol, and high in taste!!

Birkenhead Brewery As the first wine and brewing estate in the Southern Hemisphere, Birkenhead runs a small but growing micro brewery, water bottling plant, winery and vineyard situated in the Western Cape of South Africa. Here you will find out about the exceptional beer, the country estate, the brewery and the restaurant and pub. Enjoy the delicious food and freshly brewed beer, and visit the vineyard and winery!

Boston Brewery

Boston Breweries All Boston Breweries products are naturally brewed using malted barley, water, yeast and hops. The key to Boston's continued popularity and success lies in a superbly enjoyable, hand-made product, loyal customers and their highly service orientated approach! Their brews include 'the naked Mexican', 'Whale Tale Ale', 'Hazzard Ten Ale', 'Johnny Gold Weiss' and 'Boston Lager'.

Darling Brew

Darling Brewery The Darling Brew design was inspired by the geometric tortoise, which is found only in the Western Cape and the Kalahari and is extremely rare. This tortoise captures the uniqueness and the unhurried character that is Darling Brew. The beer is crisp and light (4% alcohol), with roasted aromas, is natural (preservative free) and has a 4 and a half week brewing time.

Today, Jack Black Beer is brought to you in the spirit of his enterprise and the quest for the perfect lager.
