Thai Restaurants

I've always used to joke about what gets served in Thai restaurants, but I wasn't serious about it...until now!

Top 5 Weird Beer from around the World

Since there are many beer festivals in Cape Town happening during the next few weeks, we had a look at some beers you should think twice about drinking. I don't think these are available in South Africa but you have been warned - drink at own risk!

1. Beer for Dogs
Beer for Dogs Those hoping to get drunk with their four-legged friend are in for a disappointment though, Kwispel is non-alcoholic. It's only there to bring cool relief to thirsty dogs. Marketed as "a beer for your best friend", the tipple is brewed to taste like beef.
2. Chilli Beer
Loooking for a proper punch in the face from your brew. Then maybe you need a beer that has some jalapeno added to the mix. A straw poll of reviews on beeradvocate.com however suggests Chilli Beer isnt a match made in pub heaven sadly. The reviews state that it looks unappealing, it smells unappealing, and it tastes like watered-down hot sauce.
3. Santa's Butt
Santas Butt Nothing special here except that the name is a bit unfortunate. A butt is actually a reference to a large 108 gallon barrel.
4. Pizza Beer
Pizza Beer Do you enjoy pizza? Do you enjoy beer? Then this might be something for you! Mamma Mia Pizza Beer is the world's first culinary alcoholic drink. Made from a variety of vegetables, this beer is finished off with a strong aroma of Italian spices. The result, something called pizza beer - fabulous!
5. Milk Beer
 Milk Beer

Bilk is a combination of beer and milk! It's a huge hit in Japan apparently but I don't think I would pour this over my Cornflakes for breakfast! The brewers came up with the idea for the sickly-sounding drink as a way of dealing with an oversupply of milk due to falling consumption. Clever!

National Flag Designs

I love browsing the internet and StumbleUpon has recently become my new best friend. Some may call it 'a waste of time' but this weekend has been very educational. I now know more about the lost city of Atlantis & Plato than ever before. Plus, I'm really getting into Greek mythology - it's been very interesting. However, I also 'stumbled upon' this gem and I just had to share it:

Brazil National Flag Food

This national flag was on display at the Sydney International Food Festival. The highlight of the program is the amazing food scene that present some national flag-inspired food designs. To view them all follow this link to the Ads of the World website.

Then I figured; there must be more of these food designs around the internet. But I only found one other blog post by Jen on Tiny Urban Kitchen. She created several pizzas inspired by national flag designs for a competition. And they look amazing!

Next time I'm making pizza, I will definitly get a bit more creative than just the usual Regina topings :)

How to make coffee look good

I know a lot of people who can become very fussy when it comes to a good cup of coffee. Trying to talk some sense into them would come close to a suicide mission - you better run and run fast! They can talk about coffee for what seems like hours to me. Truth be told, I really don't care. Only a few hours after their last fix, they feel like having another cup. But it gets worse: Everyone seems to approve of this ridiculous behaviour. What they don't realise is that they actually have a problem; they have a proper addiction! But even I have to admit, this kind of addiction can look pretty amazing at times and here is how:

These pictures were originally published by Roytawan but unless you can understand Thai - it's not going to be much help to you. However, you can follow this link to find out how to make the following designs as well:

5 second rule: You dropped your food!

Do you still eat your food after its been on the floor? That's the million dollar question for today!

I probably wouldn't eat a salad that's been on the floor but if I had dropped my favorite biscuits, that would be another story altogether - I would be faced with a serious dilemma! Not that I would ever drop them on the floor - but you can never be too careful! I love those biscuits.

I don’t know if you have ever heard of the 5 second rule: It basically states that as long as you pick the food up before five seconds have passed, the food should not get contaminated. There is even a Wikipedia article on it.  Sadly someone at the University of Illinois at Urbana–Champaign and even MythBusters have found this rule to be flawed!

Therefore, I went looking for set of alternative rules that would help me determine if I should eat food that's been dropped on the floor: I have found something. And I like it!

You dropped your Food!

Relationship between Food and Noise

Food served on planes are crap...right? I don't think I've ever had an enjoyable meal in the air. But there might be another reason it always tastes so bad: The relentless noise!

Noise at Restaurants

According to a study by Scientific American "a noisy restaurant can distract you from your dinner conversation. But all that clatter may also drown out the taste of your food, making it more bland". In the experiment, 48 college students had to listen to loud white noise, a soft white noise or were sitting in a silent room. All respondents were given the exact same food (cookies & chips) and asked to rate the flavor.

The results: The students who heard the loud white noise perceived the chips to be not as salty and the cookies not as sweet. So there you go: Another study answering a question that noone was actually asking!

10 Most Dangerous Foods for Drivers

Insurance.com have conducted a study to find the 10 most dangerous foods to eat while driving. We all know that driving and eating is probably not the smartest thing. In order to save time in this fast paced world we’ve all been guilty of it.

They claim the bad habit of munching while navigating traffic can lead to an average increase of 25% in your insurance costs and that most accidents associated with this behavior are rear-ending the car in front of you. In general 80% percent of crashes and 65% of near-crashes involve driver distraction…I don’t think I needed a study to tell me that!

Anyhow,...here you go: The 10 most dangerous foods to eat while driving [read the entire post to view list]

Hamburger

The safest route would be to never eat or drink anything while operating a vehicle of course….but where’s the challenge in that? My life is too boring not to add death possibilities to mundane tasks.

180 Days of Happy Meal

During April, a photographer named Sally Davies went to her local McDonalds and bought herself a Happy Meal. But she didn't eat it...she only took photos - 180 of them for 180 days.

Now, I'm no expert but if I go for a holiday and leave a sandwich on the kitchen counter; there is a pretty good chance that it's not gonna look very appealing when I get back. Below is a picture of a 180-day (6 months) old Happy Meal. Still looks fine to me, wonder how it tastes...

McDonals Photography Project 180 Days Happy Meal

(All pictures here)

Really makes one wonder what's actually in those things! Maybe if we eat McDonalds every day for the rest of our lives, we will be preserved forever as well? Anyone willing to give that a try?

Q-Man Chopsticks

I am not known for being the most patient person - especially when I'm hungry. When I'm going out for Chinese,... I try,...but I just get over it after a while: I still haven't managed to master the art of using chopsticks.

When I have food in front of me, I want to eat it...NOW! and not pick up the same piece of sweet sour chicken for the 5th time just to watch it drop onto my plate again.

But there is a solution and it's called The Q-Man Chopsticks. I think they would make a great x-mas present for your favorite blogger *cough! You can get them at Amazon for under $9.
