Steenberg’s cellar door restaurant Bistro Sixteen82 will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, 14 February with a quirky event to create a refreshing twist to this day of celebration - traditionally reserved for romantic couples only. Chef Brad Ball will present a Tapas Long Table of Friends to cater for single guests and their friends, to seat a total of 20 diners at two sittings (17:30 and 18:30). This relaxed, early-evening rendezvous of great conversation and gourmet cuisine in a glorious vineyards setting is offered at R200 per person, including a glass of Steenberg 1682 ‘bubbly’. Bistro 1682 Valentines Day 2012

With tapas being the world’s most social eating style, there will be plenty of opportunity for diners to chat and meet new friends, sharing this culinary experience which has earned this chef the reputation of serving the ‘tastiest tapas in town’. Says Ball: ‘Valentine’s Day is a special day, and there is no reason why it shouldn’t also be celebrated by single people, raising a glass to their love of life. The Idea is to create a happy occasion with absolutely no romantic overtones for unattached folk who love dining out, and who would like to spend an evening of laughter and fun in the company of their friends and other like-minded people.’

With attentive waitrons serving irresistible tapas platters throughout the evening, this is an opportunity for diners with a penchant for tapas, to taste their way through Ball’s new traditional Spanish Tapas Menu. Guests may look forward to superb fare which celebrates the true origins of tapas, with mouth-watering dishes such as the Pollo a la Plancha, a dish of grilled chicken thighs in a tangy harissa and lemon sauce; and Solomillo a la Trinchado, tender Chalmar beef fillet in a red wine and chilli sauce; to tempt the palate. Dishes will include delicious meat free options too, such as Papas Con Romero, a blend of crushed new potatoes with garlic and rosemary; and Jamón y Queso, a serving of Puglia mozzarella with prosciutto and caper berries. Always a ‘hot’ favourite is Ball’s signature standard Gambas Pil Pil (shelled tiger prawns smothered in a delicious garlic and chilli oil), which remains on the menu by popular demand. To round off this perfect occasion, a selection of melt-in-the-mouth desserts will be served in true tapas style.

Steenberg offers an impressive range of wines, and a variety of cultivars and styles feature on the wine list, with many available by the glass to complement every dish.
