The Bungalow | Clifton Restaurant
Residents living in Cape Town were ecstatic when they heard the news of their favourite location in Clifton opening as a phenomenal hotspot. The Bungalow is Cape Town’s newly launched upmarket restaurant, lounge and bar. It has been completely renovated and was launched on 23 December 2011. Situated at the very edge of Clifton 4th Beach, it is the only venue to boast a Clifton address.
Paul Kovensky, successful restaurateur and hotelier and owner of The Kove, Paranga, Zenzero, Pepenero, 5 Rooms, La Belle, Rose Bar and The Alphen Hotel, opened The Bungalow with well-known Johannesburg based hospitality guru Chris Coutroulis. Upon renovating and planning the launch of The Bungalow, Kovensky pulled the entire project off in 8 weeks.
The Bungalow offers a chic, laid-back setting as the careful attention to design detail echoes an urbane, but casual sophistication. The interior is a combination of materials and fixtures from honey coloured marble and reclaimed wood to ornate mirrors and collections of small chandeliers. The patio and deck offers an unobstructed seaside dining experience with a 360 degree view which includes the Clifton ocean shore and the 12 Apostles and Lion’s Head. Mediterranean colours play off of a white-washed beach cabin motif, enhanced by a cool splash pool, creating the casual beach house ambience with suave appeal.
Open from 12:00 – 02:00 daily, the contemporary style menu offers an extensive range of options from light bistro lunches to designer sushi and complete dinners that can be enjoyed with a selection of signature cocktails. Incorporating the rustic flavours of the Mediterranean, the food is beautifully plated and made fresh from locally sourced ingredients.
Situated in Cape Town’s luxury playground, The Bungalow is perfect for those balmy summer evenings, whether it is to enjoy a cocktail with friends before the party, business lunches, a first date, a family dinner or a private function. Guests can expect exclusivity within a vibrant and youthful ambience while experiencing their first taste of true ocean-side dining in Cape Town. Why not join the post-work “it” crowd as they wind down by the splash-pool and enjoy a mid-afternoon buzz amongst a cosmopolitan crowds and undercover celebrities.
